Bill Cosby, who was once known as America’s Dad, loved and admired for his role on The Cosby Show, was convicted for the 2004 drugging and assault of Andrea Constand. Cosby was labeled a “sexually violent predator” and sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison.
He is the first celebrity to meet this legal fate in the #MeToo era.
According to the Washington Post, Judge Stephen O’Neill determined in his ruling that there was “overwhelming” evidence than Cosby had planned on drugging and assaulting his victim, based on Cosby’s own words in a civil deposition.
The Comedian Bill Cosby, will now have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, letting the state know about any job he took, or any time he changed his residence, among other restrictions.
“It is time for justice, Mr. Cosby, this has all circled back to you,” Judge O’Neill said. “The day has come. The time has come.”
Cosby was also fined $25,000 in sentencing.
According to the New York Times, Cosby is heading straight to prison, with the judge denying him a request to remain free on bail while he seeks an anticipated appeal.
As the Bill Cosby’s fall from grace is solidified, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is doubling down on its insistence to never remove his star from the Walk of Fame, according to CBS Los Angeles.
“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a historical record of entertainment figures past and present. Once installed, the stars become part of the historic fabric of the Walk of Fame, a ‘designated historic cultural landmark,’ and are intended to be permanent,” the chamber said in a reiteration of earlier statements. “The stars only commemorate the recipient’s professional accomplishments. It is regrettable when the personal lives of inductees do not measure up to public standards and expectations; however, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce does not remove stars from the Walk of Fame.”
Cosby’s star has already been vandalized multiple times since allegations broke, but that has not stopped the chamber from fixing it up and restoring it.
