A man in Maryland was apprehended after he had intentionally infected numerous women with HIV. Several of the victims were targeted using dating apps. According to FOX 5 DC, Rudolph Smith,34, was arrested Monday after a 21-month extensive investigation. Police say they received a tip of Smith having unprotected sexual intercourse with various women while knowing that he was HIV positive. Police allege that he would use dating apps and websites to contact his victims. The Frederick Police Department said in a statement that they got in contact with the victims and obtained warrants to open an investigation in the case: “Detective Dewees identified and contacted multiple victims, and authored and received several search and seizure warrants. Evidence was presented to a grand jury, which resulted in Mr. Smith being indicted.” Smith embarked on his scheme back in 2017 and used sites such as BackPage and Bumble to meet his victims.
